Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation Holiday Shop

The 2011 West Coast Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation Holiday Shop, presented by Michael’s Toyota of Bellevue, is planned for Thursday, December 15 at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma.  The Third Annual Holiday Shop, originally created to “empower” children in the hospital around the holiday season to be able to “shop” and prepare for the holiday season with their families, without ever leaving the hospital, is a favorite program this time of year!  Patients (ages 3 and up) at Mary Bridge are invited to come down to the Holiday Shop and select two items for their parents or guardians. (Children unable to shop are visited by volunteers with gift carts so they may participate.) Foundation and hospital volunteers assist all of the children in wrapping their gifts with festive paper, bows, gift tags and writing cards for the special people in their lives.

Thank you to Michael’s Toyota of Bellevue and Michael’s Chevrolet of Issaquah for their continued support to help us bring holiday spirit each year to these very special children.

2011 Haunted House and Halloween Boo Bash

On Sunday October 30st, over 500 costume adorned friends and family enjoyed the epic 2011 Haunted House and Halloween Boo Bash in support of children and animals in need through the Jim Mora Count on Me Family Foundation and the Seattle Humane Society.  The event raised just over $4,000 with donations from the party goers!

Guests, young and old, enjoyed a Spooktacular Eve filled with Frightening Fun, Ghoulish Games, Fiendish Food, Award Winning Costumes, and Devilish DJ Jams along with the wickedly wild highlight of the night—The Haunted House!

Half of the existing house was amazingly transformed into the Haunted House complete with a wild maze of realistic frightening scenes, fantastic special effects, hidden doors and passageways along with humorous twists and turns.

Josh Laitila, of Pointbreak LLC, a landscaping and estate maintenance company, was the creator and constructive force behind the haunted labyrinth. His team, who constructed and manned the Haunted House that night, along with home owner Daryl Russinovich, Halloween enthusiasts Shannon Mora and Shelley Turner combined efforts to create one Big Halloween Bash with a charitable aspect -- Chills & Charity!

Many more Halloween fanatics donated time and energy to make the Boo Bash a memorable event. Barabra Sowatsky of Gourmet Chef Services created the Chile con Carnage and the Edible Autopsy that were quickly devoured.  Rick Nelson and Jay Hayes of Mobile Celebrations worked the party as young and old grooved to some wicked tunes.  Mural Man, Scott Summers, created ghoulish murals throughout the Haunted House. Anthony Hayward of Intentional Images and photographer Jorge Hernandez captured the party moments. (click here for Jorge's slideshow and click here for Intentional Images Facebook Page) Also Tim Turner, of SPPLUS Transportation NW provided a bus service to make sure everyone was shuttled to and from their cars safely.

All fright levels were covered: youngsters could create and decorate crafts in a safe haven over the garage, the Haunted Lab provided interactive fun with motion activated figures and a touch station that provoked some to exclaim ‘eeeeewww gross!’ and the spooktacularly decorated party space played host to food, beverages, dancing and socializing for all to enjoy. For those wishing for a high scare factor, the frightful journey began with a spooky path through the haunted woods and continued into Frightville at the Haunted House.

The epic journey through the Haunted house was meant to envelop and confuse all the senses.  With backlights everywhere, vision was intensified as the neon images sprung to life. Things that were ordinary objects morphed into ominous torcher chambers- a dryer with tumbling body parts, a washer with Regina’s head wildly spinning upon the touch of a button, and walls, cabinets and floors that came alive.   Once inside there was no turning back and navigating the maze was frighteningly challenging due to doors to nowhere, hidden passages, optical illusions and unstable floors. There was no refuge in the blood covered Mirror Room or the Spider’s Den with a giant spider and it’s cocooned victims looming overhead. Guests raved over the Freddy Krueger Room complete with a chainsaw severed torso while ghastly evil zombie children danced with devilish delight in the attic. The final room combined the movies “Saw” with two masked men relaxing back on the couch, and “Poltergeist” with Carol Ann gazing into a stack of static filled tv’s. Guests were lulled into a false sense of security before one last scare, a ghoul who popped out of the ottoman in front of the couch! The final escape led you over a floating floor and through a giant tv screen cut into the wall. At last, back to the main party room and dance floor.

The Haunted House and Halloween Boo Bash was a frightfully fun and festive event with all donations supporting children and animals in need.  The Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation is a non-profit organization whose focus is assisting children in need and at risk within our community. The Seattle Humane Society is a non-profit dedicated to animal welfare. Visit www.countonmefoundation.org and www.seattlehumane.org
